During these meetings, Živković, as stated in the DPS statement, pointed out that Podgorica was under blockade.
"The ruling parties no longer have a majority in the Podgorica parliament. None of the mayor's decisions are enforceable, because the government has been reduced to 27 councilors. In any democratic society, if they lost the majority of 30 councilors, the mayor or the president of the assembly would resign," said Živković.
Živković added that the example of Podgorica shows that a coalition formed on the principle of blackmail and political trade is doomed to failure.
"The same is true of the government. The current government is a government of compromise. A government formed on the principle of lies, blackmail, and trade. and as such, it is leading Montenegro to ruin. This is also seen today by two-thirds of citizens who say that the country is going in the wrong direction. Citizens are dissatisfied with the state of the economy, healthcare, and security. Prices in Montenegro have become a nightmare for household budgets, no one in this country feels safe anymore, because the security sector has capitulated to crime, citizens suffer because of ever longer waiting lists for examinations and interventions," said Živković.
In conclusion, the statement added, he underlined that it is more than obvious that Montenegro is in a political and institutional crisis, and that this fact has been further exposed by the decision of the DPS not to contribute to the simulation of democracy in a country in which the government, under the guise of talking about the EU, adopts anti-constitutional and anti-European laws.
"Montenegro's national interest is EU membership. After the adoption of these bizarre laws, it is in the national interest to protect citizens from the bizarre government that has legalized its persecution and spying on them. That is why this government must be removed in elections. And that is why early parliamentary elections are the only fair and honest solution. When you lose legitimacy, you have no right to govern. This government has lost legitimacy, it would be normal for them to return mandates to citizens," Živković pointed out.
As stated in the statement, the working visit to Podgorica is part of the regular activities of the leadership of the Democratic Party of Socialists with the aim of establishing direct contact with citizens.
