"The results of the Hungarian elections have a much broader significance than just a change of government in one country. Yesterday, anti-European politics in one EU member state was thoroughly defeated. Yesterday, citizens said no to politics based on an authoritarian model of government. Yesterday, Hungarians rejected politics that supported the snowballs that launched one of the most horrific wars on European soil. Finally, yesterday, an opponent of NATO and the EU within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union itself was defeated," the SEP states.
They point out that the elections in Hungary have once again confirmed that the inviolable will of the citizens cannot be overridden by the unprecedented interference of third countries in the internal processes of a member state in the European Union, nor by the reliance of any of the actors on non-European and anti-European centers of power.
"The almost two-thirds victory of a clear European policy in Hungary, along with strong and broad social and institutional resistance to the radical right in France, Germany and Romania over the past two years, is a strong tailwind for the idea of a united and prosperous Europe, which is one of the basic programmatic commitments of the Party of European Progress. The world needs such a Europe today and all of us individually, just as Montenegro needs the measured, consistent and progressive actions of the Party of European Progress," SEP emphasizes.
The SEP emphasized that Montenegro is not an isolated island. Therefore, they believe that there is no doubt that the citizens of our country will be able to distinguish true European politics in the upcoming elections from the current, as they assessed, dominant politics of populism, nationalism and radicalism falsely and unconvincingly disguised under EU flags in Montenegro. The characteristics of the current Montenegrin government, which has lasted through three terms of government, are the adoption of anti-European laws, undemocratic behavior, clientelism, economic regression, false promises to Brussels while simultaneously strengthening political and economic ties with non-European and anti-European politics. These are politics that are experiencing defeat after defeat in European countries.
"There is no doubt that this will be the case in Montenegro, soon, and that the actor of change for the better will be the Party of European Progress," they conclude in a statement from the SEP.
