Albanian Forum MP Nikola Camaj emphasizes that care should be taken to ensure that our citizens who are temporarily outside Montenegro do not lose their right to vote.
"A lot of our people live temporarily abroad, study abroad. There are a lot of people who have origins here and who have never severed ties with Montenegro. They are even citizens. Whether they should be direct participants or not is a matter of agreement. But, as a representative of the Albanian minority in Montenegro, I am very interested in that right being guaranteed," said Camaj.
The opposition says they support anything that will improve the electoral system and improve voter registration checks.
URA MP Miloš Konatar says that it is necessary to create fair election conditions so that the election results are not called into question.
"We'll see, the Government's intention is one thing. We've often had good intentions from the Government, but the implementation, or rather the draft law, is not so good," said Konatar.
He notes that the legal text must not discriminate against anyone.
"It must be fair, honest and must apply equally to everyone," said Konatar.
We have not been able to get an opinion on this legal solution from the New Serbian Democracy and the European Movement. The Democratic Party of Socialists stated that they have not yet had access to the text, while the Bosniak Party is waiting for the presidency session to form a position.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has sent the Parliament a draft Law on Registers of Residence and Temporary Residence. This act envisages the deletion from the register of residence of persons for whom there are justified grounds for not residing in Montenegro.
Also, Montenegrin citizens who plan to settle in another country, those returning to Montenegro from abroad, as well as those who plan to be outside the country for longer than three months, would have to report this to the Ministry of Interior.
