Theft of flowers and ornamental plants from public areas is not a rare occurrence in the Capital, says Milica Vukčević from the city's "Zelenilo" company. Unfortunately, acts of vandalism occur almost daily, affecting both the appearance and functionality of public green spaces.
"A few days ago, we had a case where seasonal flowers were stolen or misappropriated from the Boulevard of Saint Peter of Cetinje, and we have information that the annual cost of vandalism is enough to build a new playground and arrange a new green area," said Vukčević.
He adds that seasonal flowers are often stolen from public areas.
"It happens that we return to the same areas and plant flowers again and plant them in two cycles, i.e. in the spring and winter periods, and perhaps the consequences of vandalism are not as visible on the flowers themselves as on the broken furniture and destroyed irrigation systems," Vukčević points out.
Vukčević emphasizes that the company is continuously faced with various forms of vandalism.
"The most common example of vandalism we see on lawns, where due to improper parking, green areas are often destroyed, as well as the irrigation system, as well as benches for quiet rest and waste bins. Children's furniture is also not immune to vandalism, and seesaws and slides are often broken. We are trying to get everything sorted out as soon as possible so that people can enjoy the green areas, but we are not able to influence that target group, namely the vandals," she said.
Vukčević says that large funds are being invested in repairing the consequences of vandalism, but if we don't appreciate the time or money invested in it, then at least we should appreciate the effort and work of the Zelenil team who work every day to make the space look neat and presentable.
