"Starting from the kinetoscope, the first device for viewing moving images from the late 19th century, to today's digital age, film has evolved into one of the most important arts and industries of today. From a few seconds of black and white footage, we come to CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) digital production, that is, from small effects to a complete visual spectacle. An illustrative example is the film "Avatar", which represents a combination of feature film and CGI technology. In this sense, the CGI + DCP system represents an ideal combination when it comes to high resolution, expressive colors and contrast."
In this context, he says, the Cultural and Information Center "Budo Tomović" is technically equipped with a digital projection system that supports the DSP (Digital Cinema Projector) standard. This allows us to offer the audience film content in high image and sound quality, in accordance with professional cinema standards.
"We had the pleasure of specially screening Nikola Vukčević's film "Face" in the Great Hall of the KIC, where, thanks to this technology, exceptional image sharpness was achieved. This allowed the frames not to lose the artistic effect of light-dark contrast, evoking the aesthetics and vividness of paintings by Caravaggio and Rembrandt. A DCP projector by BARCO, currently the leading company in the production of the aforementioned devices, was installed in the Great Hall of the KIC. Top-notch sound is provided by a set of almost 30 JBL speakers, placed throughout the entire hall - the so-called stereo surround system. As well as three sets of mobile sound boxes (horns and basses) placed behind the screen," says Zečević.
The official start of work with the use of the aforementioned equipment was marked by the premiere of the film "After Summer" by Croatian film director Denis Tanović, organized in April 2025. Film screenings of feature, short, documentary and animated films are organized every month, which contributes to greater interest and gathering of the audience.
The screening of the film "Wuthering Heights" will be held on April 7, 2026, in the Great Hall of the KIC "Budo Tomović", as part of the "World Literature on Film" XIII segment, and on April 30, 2026, as part of the same review, we will screen the film "Hamnet".
Thanks to DSP (Digital Cinema Projector), the audience will have the opportunity to experience the latest adaptation of the film "Wuthering Heights", directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, in high definition, with superb picture and sound quality.
The premiere took place on January 28, 2026 in Los Angeles, and now we have the opportunity for the film to be shown at KIC.
Social networks create the illusion of reality. Media produces emotions. The audience is saturated with this type of content, but they succumb to it.
Hence, the role of cinema is to awaken the viewer, to make them aware and inspire them, to bring them back to themselves, through visual and auditory experience.
"In addition, the new sound system that we purchased in March of this year was directly installed in the Great Hall these days. It supports the system (RCF TT +GTX 7C + GTS 16C and RCF TT+audio GTS 16C) which transforms our institution from a "local sound system" to a capacity that supports a real concert and festival level of production. This system has a line-array design - the sound goes far, it is not scattered," she adds.
The entire system is suitable for cinema screenings, presentations, concerts and events with high demands on audio and video quality.
"The equipment we now have shows how much our institution has invested in modernization and technological progress, and it is already recognized for the standard and quality of audio-visual equipment. That is why I am glad that we have realized a lot in a short period of time and have entered the phase of initiating many other projects," concluded Zečević.
