Berane once again shone as a center of cultural events last weekend, thanks to the third Festival of Folklore Ensembles for Children "Little Guardians of Tradition Berane 2026". More than 800 children from Montenegro and the region filled the city with song, dance and the colors of folk costumes, confirming that folklore remains alive and strong when it is passed on by the youngest.

The event, proudly organized by the Cultural and Artistic Association "Duga" with the support of the Municipality of Berane, UFACG and the Tourist Organization of Berane, was conceived by artistic director and choreographer Marijana Maja Dakić. Her vision to pass on tradition to children became the driving force behind the festival: "This festival is more than just dance and song - it is a reminder of who we are and where we come from. Through the steps of our youngest, tradition is not only preserved, but also gains new strength and beauty," said Dakić.

A special touch to the event was the festive parade through the streets of Berane. More than 800 children, dressed in lavish folk costumes, created a colorful circle of unity and pride. It was a procession that connected the past and the future, transforming the city into a stage of tradition and youthful energy.

As many as 25 ensembles from all over Montenegro and the region performed on stage: from Podgorica came KUD "Serdar", GKUD "Lim", FA "Podgorica", KUD "Mladost", KUD "Duga Montenegro", AKUD "Mirko Srzentić", KUD "Aluminijum", ACNIP "Iskra" and FA "Vila"; from Tivat KUD "Boka", from Đenovići KUD "Sloga", from Mojkovac KUD "Vesna", from Pljevlja KUD "Volođa", from Žabljak KUD "Durmitor", from Nikšić FA "Zahumlje", from Rožaje FA "Rožaje", from Bijelo Polje KUD "Tekstilac", from Andrijevica KUD "Komovi", and the host was KUD "Duga" from Berane. A special charm was also provided by guests from Serbia – KUD "Abrašević" from Prilužje, KUD "Metohija" from Goraždec, and "KUD mladih Novi Pazar" from Novi Pazar. They were accompanied by the original singing group "Dukat" from Berane, while Rahma Kujević, winner of the "Zlatna pahulja" festival, won the audience.

The Secretary for Culture and Youth of the Municipality of Berane, Nikola Urošević, emphasized the importance of such gatherings: "The participation of over 800 children is an impressive number even for a much larger community. It is precisely these children, our little people, who are the guardians of tradition and our heritage."

The event was also welcomed by the newly elected president of UFACG, Vasilije Bato Rogošić, wishing the participants to play and socialize in the spirit of tradition that their ancestors loved.

The Third Festival of Folklore Ensembles for Children "Little Guardians of Berane Tradition 2026" has left a strong mark on the city's cultural calendar. It is proof that folklore is not only a legacy of the past, but also an inspiration for the future - a space where generations meet, and tradition gains new beauty through the smiles and steps of the youngest.
