The border police in Nikšić prevented the smuggling of 10 Sudanese citizens across the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and arrested three Turkish citizens suspected of organizing the illegal transport of migrants, the Police Directorate announced.

As they state, the control was carried out in the town of Broćanac, where Turkish citizens and migrants, including two children, were found in two vehicles, after which the suspects were arrested on suspicion of the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and human smuggling.

"On 10.04.2026. at 18.45, border police officers, while conducting field activities to combat cross-border crime and illegal migration, in the town of Broćanac - Municipality of Nikšić, controlled a passenger motor vehicle "BMW" X1 driven by K.A (26), with whom he was in the vehicle M.A (30), both Turkish citizens. The vehicle "Peugeot 3008", driven by FO (41), a citizen of Turkey. Of these three persons, two had temporary residence permits on our territory," the statement reads.

They add that the inspection of persons and vehicles determined that there were a total of ten more persons in these vehicles, citizens of Sudan, who had certificates of international protection in Montenegro, and these are nine males and one female, of whom two are children and eight adults aged 19 to 37.

"The criminal investigation, which was carried out immediately afterwards, points to the suspicion that three Turkish citizens intended to transport these ten Sudanese to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to smuggle them illegally and on foot from the territory of Montenegro to the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, bypassing border crossings and police controls," the statement said.

They add that the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić has been informed about everything.

"Three Turkish citizens, KA, MA and FO, were arrested on suspicion of committing the crime of illegal border crossing and human smuggling. Ten Sudanese citizens were placed in an appropriate location for care and further measures and actions," the statement concluded.
