Man from Nikšić arrested for smuggling Sudanese citizens

Police officers of the Regional Border Police Center "Centar", taking measures and actions to suppress all forms of cross-border crime and illegal migration, last night deprived a Montenegrin citizen of his liberty suspected of migrant smuggling, the Police Directorate announced.

"Police officers from the border police in Nikšić, in the town of Kočani, checked a vehicle with Nikšić license plates driven by a Montenegrin citizen, ZP, from Nikšić," the police said.

The check determined that the vehicle driven by ZP contained four persons identified as Sudanese citizens: AB (19), AB (27), HA (20) and AA (21).

The criminal investigation determined that these individuals intended to travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then to European Union countries, while they listed France and Italy as their final destination.

They add that after collecting information, the acting state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić ordered that ZP be deprived of his liberty on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and human smuggling.

"The suspect will be brought before the prosecutor in charge today, along with a criminal report, for further proceedings," the police concluded.
