The meeting, held at Villa Gorica, was an opportunity to present concrete results in prosecuting all forms of crime, especially organized crime and corruption. It was emphasized that these results are a clear indicator of the strengthening of the rule of law in Montenegro and an important contribution to the overall process of European integration.
"Prosecutors' representatives emphasized their full commitment to meeting the final benchmarks from negotiating chapters 23 and 24, presenting the steps taken in that direction through reforms that strengthen the efficiency, professionalism and accountability of the prosecutorial system. In this regard, the need for continuous strengthening of human and institutional capacities was emphasized," they said in a statement.
The interlocutors agreed that strengthening the rule of law requires a modern and strong prosecution service that operates in accordance with European Union standards and enjoys the full trust of citizens. They stressed that an independent and impartial prosecution service, free from any political or other influence, is a prerequisite for the successful continuation of Montenegro's European path.
"The interlocutors emphasized that international cooperation represents an important pillar in strengthening efficiency, through the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices, and expressed their willingness to strengthen partnership relations between the institutions of Montenegro and Austria in the field of justice," the statement concluded.
