"At a time when the global crisis and the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East are leading to a sharp increase in the prices of oil and petroleum products around the world, let's see what diesel prices are like in Europe. According to data from the beginning of March 2026, the average price of diesel in the EU is around €1.57 per liter, while in countries like Switzerland, the Netherlands or Finland the prices are close to €2. In Montenegro, the price of diesel is €1.34 per liter (valid until March 10, 2026)," Turković said.
As he states, this price currently places Montenegro among the countries with the lowest diesel prices in Europe.
"Also, what is important to emphasize is that as of February 11, 2025, Montenegro - for the first time since the declaration of independence - began the efficient formation of mandatory reserves of petroleum products, in accordance with the Law on Security of Supply of Petroleum Products and obligations under the Energy Community and EU standards," he said.
Turković states that a fee of 3 cents per liter of gasoline and diesel has been introduced, which, as he says, is used exclusively for strategic supplies.
"The Ministry of Energy and Mining stated that in March 2026, we have formed around 44,260 metric tons of mandatory reserves (mostly diesel/gas oils), which allows for stable market supply in the event of a total blockade or serious disruptions for about a month to a month and a half," concludes Turković.
