Average salary in February 1,025 euros, highest earnings in financial activities and insurance

According to data from the Statistical Office of Montenegro (MONSTAT), the average net salary, excluding taxes and contributions, in February amounted to 1,025 euros. This is one euro less than in January. The highest average salary was recorded in the financial services and insurance sector, at 1,623 euros.

Monstat announced that the average gross salary in February was 1,225 euros.

"The average (net) salary in February 2026 compared to January 2026 recorded a decrease of 0.1%, while the average (net) salary in February 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year recorded an increase of 2.3%. If we take into account that consumer prices in February 2026 compared to January 2026 recorded an increase of 0.2%, it follows that real salaries for the same period recorded a decrease of 0.3%," the Monstat report states.

Of the 19 industries observed, wages increased in eight, fell in 10, and remained unchanged in one (professional, scientific, and technical industries).

The largest contribution to the overall slight decline was made by sectors with a large number of employees, which recorded a decline, such as trade, healthcare, and administrative services, while the largest growth in earnings was recorded in smaller sectors, such as energy and mining.

The highest average salary in February was paid in the financial services and insurance sector, at 1,623 euros. It was followed by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, at 1,456 euros, information and communication, at 1,314 euros, real estate activities, at 1,206 euros, and mining and quarrying, at 1,169 euros. These sectors also recorded the highest growth:

"Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (2.5%), Mining and quarrying (1.0%), Education (0.8%), Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (0.4%), Transport and storage (0.4%), Manufacturing (0.3%), Information and communication (0.3%), Financial and insurance activities (0.2%) and Real estate activities (0.2%)," the Monstat report states.

The average salary in the sectors with the largest number of employees, namely in health and social protection, was 1,040 euros, and in education 955.

The lowest average net salary is in the administrative and support service sector at 844 euros, slightly above the salary in the arts, entertainment and recreational activities at 898 euros. The largest drop in salaries compared to January was recorded in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector, where the average salary is 909 euros.

Average earnings (gross) are calculated by dividing the total amount of earnings paid in a month by the number of employees to whom the payments relate. Earnings without taxes and contributions (net) are earnings (gross) less taxes and contributions paid by the employee. The index of real average earnings without taxes and contributions (net) represents the ratio between the index of nominal average earnings without taxes and contributions (net) and the consumer price index.
