Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović met in Skopje with representatives of the business community of North Macedonia, as part of a working lunch during his official visit, Milatović's public relations office announced.

During the conversation, it was assessed that there is significant room for improving economic relations, especially through increasing trade, investment and direct cooperation between companies, with the message that economic cooperation should follow the quality of political relations between the two countries.

"Our goal is for economic cooperation to follow the quality of political relations and to create an environment in which it will be easier for companies from the region to invest, grow, and connect with each other," said Milatović.

Special focus was placed on the potential for cooperation in the areas of tourism, food and pharmaceutical industries, as well as construction. In this context, the experience of companies such as Alkaloid, Tikveš and Vitaminka, which are already present on the Montenegrin market, was highlighted as a good basis for further business expansion.

President Milatović said that Montenegro wants to be a reliable partner to the regional business community and an active factor in the economic integration of the Western Balkans, through the removal of business barriers and the encouragement of concrete investment initiatives.

The importance of improving transport connectivity, including the establishment of a direct Tivat-Skopje airline, was also highlighted as an important prerequisite for more intensive business and tourism cooperation.

In this context, the statement concludes, they also discussed specific next steps that would contribute to a greater presence of companies and a stronger investment momentum between the two countries.
