The relevant minister said that the most important change is the one that ensures the financial sustainability of this system until 2034.
"We proposed, and such a text was established at yesterday's session of the Government of Montenegro, that special fees, which taxpayers were obliged to pay until 2027, be paid until 2034, because institutions in the ecological system must be strong, and with this norm we ensure the sustainability of the Regional Water Supply Company of the Montenegrin Coast, but also stability in business during the new investment cycle that is being prepared or is already being implemented. Although the results of the work of the Regional Water Supply Company in 2025 were exceptional (both in financial operations, and in the field of combating environmental crime), with this law we want to make this important company even stronger and more stable," said Ćulafić.
According to him, the adoption of this Proposal for amendments to the law will achieve greater legal certainty, clearer application of regulations in practice, and more efficient implementation of legal solutions.
Also, as he further added, the changes enable the creation of conditions for the continuation of the implementation of infrastructure projects of importance for the Montenegrin coast.
MERS adds that Ćulafić stated that the proposed solutions are also aimed at improving the functionality of the regional water supply system, strengthening institutional coordination with other competent authorities, as well as creating a more favorable environment for investments and tourism development, while respecting the principles of legality, transparency and sustainable management of water resources.
"Through improving the normative framework, strengthening mechanisms for protecting water sources, and continuous investments in infrastructure, we are creating long-term stability of the water supply system of the Montenegrin coast and responsible management of water resources," the minister concluded.
