According to the data that the Bankar portal received from the Tax Administration, the number of business entities whose founders are natural persons who are citizens of Turkey registered in 2025 is 2,140. Compared to the previous year, there is a decrease.

After the recent incident in the Podgorica settlement of Zabjelo, to which the state reacted by temporarily introducing visas for citizens of Turkey, the Bankar portal checked whether these measures affected the economic activities of the citizens of that country — above all, the shutdown of their businesses. The data shows that more than 30 Turkish companies were shut down in the last month, which means that on average one was closed every day.

"The number of business entities whose founders are natural persons who are citizens of Turkey registered in 2024 is 2,875", the Tax Administration told the Bankar portal.

The most common activities in which Turkish companies operate are wholesale trade, construction, catering, consulting services and car rental or leasing.

"The municipalities in which the most business entities whose founders are Turkish citizens are registered are Podgorica, Budva, Bar, Tivat, Kotor", according to the Tax Administration.

We were also interested in how many Turkish companies were deleted from the Central Register of Business Entities in the last few days, after the incident in the Zabjelo settlement in Podgorica, and how many since the beginning of the year.

"The number of Turkish companies that have been deleted from the Central Register of Business Entities in the last month is 31, and since the beginning of 2025, 234", the Tax Administration told the Bankar portal.

In the past month alone, 30 Turkish companies have been shut down, or an average of one per day, which clearly indicates that the incident on Zabjela and the introduction of visas could have a measurable effect on the market. With a total of 234 closed companies since the beginning of the year, it is evident that some investors are reconsidering their further stay in Montenegro.
