During the tour of Pavilion I, which houses the oncology department, the results of infrastructure improvements aimed at creating a better, more functional and more humane environment for patients, as well as improving the working conditions of medical staff, were presented. The adapted spaces represent an important segment of the broader process of improving the health infrastructure in this institution, which has played a significant role in the treatment of patients with lung diseases for decades.
The works on the adaptation of the terraces on the pavilions of the Brezovik Special Hospital were carried out for a total value of 147,000 euros and are part of a continuous investment cycle aimed at modernizing the health infrastructure and improving the quality of health care. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works.
After touring the facilities, a working meeting was held with the hospital management, which, in addition to Minister Šimun, Director Pejović and President Kovačević, was attended by the President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly Milica Lalatović Žižić, Director General of the Ministry of Health Amra Pepić, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Health Lorena Kovačević, Director of the Nikšić General Hospital Dr. Zoran Mrkić and Director of the Nikšić Health Center Dr. Radovan Vušović.
On that occasion, Minister Šimun emphasized the importance of continuous investments in health infrastructure as one of the key prerequisites for improving the quality of health care, but also for the further development of the institutional capacities of the health system as a whole.
"The works currently being implemented represent an important step forward in further improving the conditions for providing healthcare. Their completion will significantly improve the quality of healthcare services, as well as the overall capacities of this institution for a modern, efficient and dignified approach to treating patients. It is particularly important that the investments are being made precisely in the Specialized Healthcare Institution Brezovik, an institution that has had a recognizable place in the healthcare system of Montenegro for decades and which, thanks to the expertise of its staff and dedication to patients, has built a reputation as an institution of exceptional importance for public health. Our goal is to further strengthen healthcare institutions throughout Montenegro through such projects and provide standards that are in line with modern medical practices and citizens' expectations," said Minister Šimun.

Director Pejović stated that the adaptation of the terraces is part of a broader process of improving the conditions for the treatment of patients and the work of medical staff in this institution.
"Improving infrastructure is of particular importance for institutions that treat lung diseases, because the quality of the space in which patients stay directly affects their recovery and
"The overall course of treatment. I am convinced that the planned investments in modern medical equipment and further modernization of capacities will further strengthen the professional and diagnostic potential of our institution," said Pejović.
The President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, emphasized that in recent years, the local government has invested approximately 200,000 euros in the healthcare system of Nikšić.
"The Municipality of Nikšić will continue to provide support to the healthcare system through infrastructure projects and spatial planning around healthcare institutions, with a special focus on resolving access and parking spaces around hospital facilities, in order to facilitate the arrival of patients and employees. In cooperation with the Ministry of Health and healthcare institutions, we will strive to respond to the needs of the system in terms of infrastructure, while the most important thing is to strengthen human resources in healthcare in parallel," said Kovačević.
The President of the Municipal Assembly Lalatović Žižić said that the Municipality will always be a reliable partner to all health institutions in the city, because improving health care is one of the most important aspects of improving the quality of life in Nikšić.
"In this context, we are continuously strengthening cooperation with the Special Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases 'Dr Jovan Bulajić' in Brezovik, as well as with the General Hospital and the Health Center. I must emphasize that we receive sincere support from the republican level, primarily from the relevant ministry. Modernizing our medical institutions helps all the good and hardworking people who work in them to be as efficient as possible," said President Lalatović Žižić.
During the meeting, further development priorities of the Brezovik Special Hospital, planned infrastructure projects, as well as upcoming investments in modern medical equipment that will further improve the diagnostic and therapeutic capacities of this institution were discussed.
In the coming period, it is planned to purchase medical equipment worth around 420,000 euros through a loan arrangement with the European Investment Bank, among which a modern EBUS bronchoscope for the needs of the bronchoscopy cabinet, as well as a BACTEC laboratory device, which will significantly improve laboratory diagnostics, stands out.
In parallel, a project for the adaptation of Pavilion 5 - Polyclinic of the Brezovik Special Hospital, with an estimated value of around 200,000 euros, is being prepared, which will further improve the conditions for performing specialist examinations and diagnostic procedures.
Of particular importance for the further development of the institution is the implementation of the Lifegate project in Montenegro, which is being implemented with the coordination of the Ministry of Health, and whose carriers are the Clinical Center of Montenegro and the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro. The project is aimed at prevention, early detection and reduction of mortality from lung cancer.
The project also plans to purchase a 64-slice CT scanner for the Brezovik Special Hospital, with an estimated value of around 330,000 euros excluding VAT, with low-dose radiation technology, which will enable more efficient implementation of the program for early detection of lung diseases in at-risk patients.
The project, in addition to the procurement of modern equipment, also includes additional education of medical staff in the application of diagnostic technologies and professional interpretation of findings, which further strengthens the professional capacities of the healthcare system.
The Ministry of Health continues to invest in the development and modernization of healthcare infrastructure, taking into account the needs of patients and professionals, in order to provide all citizens with quality, accessible and dignified healthcare, in the spirit of modern medical standards and long-term sustainability of the healthcare system.
