As Gordana Đukanović from the Environmental Protection Agency told RTCG, a mobile station was installed in Pljevlja and it shows that the air condition is significantly better.
Đukanović explained that the measuring instruments are undergoing regular overhaul, which is why there were interruptions in the reading of PM particle concentrations.
"Monitoring is the one that points out the problem and initiates the solution of the problem in time. We reacted as prescribed. We had a similar situation in January 2017, but not with such high concentrations, and then we alerted all relevant institutions with the Ministry of Ecology, a plan was adopted for responding to situations like this. It was very clearly defined how to react, so we had a plan of what to do by the hour, so two hours after our notification, the Operational Team sat in Pljevlja", Djukanovic said.
He notes that the situation in the city is better, but that there is no relaxation and that such circumstances are mostly influenced by weather conditions that cannot be influenced.
According to her, the biggest polluter is coal from all combustion plants, both individual and Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant.
"We received a notification from TE that they did not establish automatic measurement on the chimney, which is mandatory for them. In this process of establishing work after reconstruction, they did not enable that part and we do not have that data, but today the Center for Toxicological Tests will install the instruments. Those measurements, however, will only show huge concentrations of sulfur dioxide, because no desulfurization system has been established, so all the products of coal combustion in TE go into the atmosphere," explained Đukanović.
She added that all the stations that measure air pollution in other municipalities are in operation and high concentrations of pollutants are being read in all parts.
