During the reception, Minister Đeka had the opportunity to discuss with Commissioner Lahbib the legislative reforms that Montenegro is implementing in the area of gender equality and protection against discrimination, as part of the European Union accession process.
The Minister informed the Commissioner about the activities of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights in preparing the new Law on Gender Equality, which plans to transpose relevant European Union directives into national legislation, as well as further strengthen the institutional and normative framework for promoting gender equality.
It was also emphasized that the Law on the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro has been submitted to the European Commission for an opinion, with the aim of further harmonizing it with European standards.
Minister Đeka also informed Commissioner Lahbib about the adoption of the Law on the Protection of Equality and Prohibition of Discrimination, which was adopted at the end of 2025 after harmonization with the acquis communautaire of the European Union, and about the planned activities for its implementation.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of continuing legislative reforms and institutional strengthening in the area of human rights protection and gender equality, as an important segment of Montenegro's European integration process.
