The big surprise on the second day at Roland Garros was the exit in the first round of eighth seed Daniil Medvedev.

He was eliminated by the 97th ranked tennis player in the world, Adam Walton from Australia.

Valton celebrated after five sets – 6:2, 1:6, 6:1, 1:6, 6:4 after three and a half hours of great battle.

Danil had a break advantage in the deciding set, leading 4:2, but Valton won four games in a row and achieved the biggest victory of his career.

His next opponent will be American Zachary Shvajda, who defeated Alexei Popirin 3:1.

When it comes to the ladies, Aryna Sabalenka and reigning champion Coco Goff had no problems.

Sabalenka defeated Spain's Jessica Buzas Maneiro 2:0 - 6:4, 6:2.

The Belarusian now awaits the winner of the Linda Fruhvirtova – Elsa Jacquemo match.

Gauff started her title defense with a bang – the American defeated compatriot Taylor Townsend – 6:4, 6:0.

Koko will face qualifier Maraj Šerif in the second round.
