Operation "Stranac": Over 3,000 measures taken to control the residence of foreigners, around 1,500 forcibly removed

On May 6, officers of the Border Police Sector, in a coordinated action implemented across the entire country, in all regions under the jurisdiction of the regional border police centers, conducted an operational action aimed at increased surveillance of the state border, combating illegal migration and cross-border crime, the Police Directorate announced.

"The implemented action involved 240 measures and actions taken against foreign citizens, within which the competent authorities undertook various administrative and operational activities aimed at controlling the legality of the residence and movement of foreigners on the territory of Montenegro," the Police Directorate stated.

In this regard, they point out, the residence of 26 foreign citizens was cancelled, while the termination of temporary residence was initiated for 42 foreign citizens. 25 decisions on return were issued, and misdemeanor charges were filed against 143 foreign citizens, or misdemeanor orders were issued. Also, in accordance with the Agreements on the Return and Acceptance of Persons whose entry or residence is illegal, three persons were handed over to neighboring countries in a summary procedure, while one foreign citizen was placed in a Reception Center for Foreigners.

"As part of the operational-tactical operation "Stranac", in cooperation with inspection services, officers of the Border Police Sector implemented 2,898 measures aimed at controlling the movement, residence and work of foreign citizens in Montenegro during March and April, and conducted 173 actions, independently and in cooperation with the competent inspection bodies," the Border Police Department said.

Within the framework of the above activities, 431 decisions on the return of persons were issued, 389 decisions on the cancellation of residence for up to 90 days and 35 decisions on the expulsion of foreign citizens, while 48 foreign citizens were forcibly removed. Also, 248 initiatives for the termination of temporary residence were submitted, and misdemeanor charges were filed against 1,619 foreign citizens, or misdemeanor orders were issued. Nine decisions on more lenient measures were also issued, 14 foreign citizens were placed in a Reception Center for Foreigners, and 105 persons were, in accordance with agreements on return and admission, transferred to neighboring countries in a summary procedure.

"In the coming period, officers of the Border Police Sector will continue with intensive activities to control the legality of entry, movement, residence and work of foreign citizens, with a special focus on monitoring and combating illegal migration flows, strengthening the security of the state border and preserving the internal security of Montenegro and its citizens," the statement from the Border Police concluded.
