Šćepanović and Peto expressed satisfaction with the continuous and efficient cooperation between the police forces of Montenegro and Albania, at the strategic and operational levels, especially in the fight against crime and in the area of border security.
"Strong regional cooperation is one of the priorities in the work and activities of the Montenegrin police," said Director Šćepanović, "and the cooperation between the police organizations of the two countries in the fight against illegal migration, migrant smuggling, drug smuggling, and against all forms of crime has yielded exceptional results achieved over the last two years, which has been praised by Europol, Frontex and other international partners," they said in a statement.
The Director and the Ambassador also discussed the activities that the Montenegrin and Albanian police are planning for the upcoming summer tourist season, which joint activities aim to coordinate the actions of the border police of the two countries, to make the borders safer, and to work even more efficiently to prevent cross-border crime and suppress and prevent migratory flows on the Western Balkan route, as well as to quickly and safely control tourists whose flow will be increased at border crossings in both countries.
In this regard, it was agreed that during the summer, communication between contact points that will be designated on both sides will be established and intensified, so that the flow of important information can take place in real time.
"The meeting once again highlighted the importance of the "Safe Tourist Season" project, within which for a decade and a half, during the summer months, colleagues from seven countries, including Albania, have been working on the Montenegrin coast, which contributes to strengthening direct cooperation between the police of the two countries, as well as strengthening the trust of citizens and tourists, and additionally promotes Montenegro as a safe partner in international police cooperation and as a safe tourist destination," they concluded in the statement.
