The construction of the Gvozd wind farm is nearing completion, and the first kilowatt of green energy from the Krnov plateau is expected to flow four months ahead of schedule. This will give Montenegro its first state-owned renewable energy source in four decades, which will contribute to better stability and security of our energy system.

The start of trial operation, planned for the end of March, involves a series of tests and functional trials, and then commercial production will begin in two months at the latest, the project manager tells Radio Montenegro. Nikola Vukotic.

"During these tests and examinations, of course, production is not at the maximum level for that day, but rather, as the units are tested one by one, they are then accepted at their maximum production, and in the end, when the testing of all eight units and the power plant itself as a whole is completed, then it can be said that it is commercial operation and that day it starts producing with its designed parameters," explains Vukotić.

The wind farm produces around 150 gigawatt hours of electricity annually, which is enough to supply around 25,000 households, and the quality equipment guarantees long-term and safe operation.

"An energy source whose fuel is inexpensive, therefore, it is one of the cheapest forms of energy that can exist. On the other hand, the equipment is German, so with proper maintenance and handling, we have some assumptions that it will be able to be used for 35 years," adds Vukotić.

The construction of the power plant is being financed by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the amount of 82 million euros, and a new arrangement should soon be signed for the construction of the "Gvozd 2" wind farm.

If Germany's Nordex delivers three wind turbines on time, the work could be completed by the end of the year, which would mean an additional 50 gigawatt hours of electricity.
