Historical materials of the then Ministry of War, stolen after 1916, have been returned from Poland and Austria to Montenegro. This, as stated, is very significant for Montenegrin cultural heritage.
"Considering the chivalrous tradition of Montenegrins, the Montenegrin army and what it has meant for our country through centuries of warrior history and all that it has meant for the formation of our statehood and the fight for freedom, I believe that this part of the material, even if we find a single name of a fallen Montenegrin soldier who may not have been known - will be enough for what we have done for our heritage and for our country," said the director of the State Archives of Montenegro. Danilo Mrvaljevic.
As the historian says Zarko Lekovic, based on the preservation of the documents, it is easy to determine that they were stolen by experts for whom the documentation was significant.
"A document is a sacred thing that must be preserved, and with this collection of documents, Montenegro gains a lot and its international reputation grows, which is why this international cooperation is very important. Here we see documents from Warsaw that were probably also stored in the Vienna archives, and after World War II the Soviets took them to Warsaw," said Leković.
In addition, numerous documents that are abroad still need to be obtained, because Montenegro deserves it, said Leković.
