Porazna je demografska slika Pljevalja, gdje se broj stanovnika u proteklih 50 godina prepolovio, a samo između dva posljednja popisa manjih je skoro 6.000. Razlog za odlazak stanovništva je mnogo, najviše ekonomski, smatraju u resornom lokalnom sekretarijatu i nevladinom sektoru i ističu da je za zaustavljanje trenda potrebno strateško planiranje i sa državnog i lokalnog nivoa.
