A girl and a man were killed in a serious road accident in Kent, England, on Wednesday evening when a truck hit their pony cart. Another woman is in a critical condition and the truck driver has been arrested, Sky News reports.

Tragedy on the A228

The accident happened at around 6.25pm ​​on the A228 Boyle Way in East Peckham, near Tonbridge. According to a police report, a DAF tipper truck collided with a tractor-trailer travelling in the same direction.

Victims and injured

"Our patrol cars, ambulances and firefighters attended the scene. A man in his 30s, who was in the carriage, sadly died at the scene," Kent Police said. A young girl and a woman, who were also in the carriage, were rushed to hospital. The girl later succumbed to her injuries, while the woman remains in a critical condition. The pony pulling the carriage died at the scene.

Investigation underway

Police have arrested a 29-year-old truck driver from Kent and are in custody. An investigation is underway and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to come forward.
