"Such interventions are necessary and should have become the rule a long time ago. That is why I encourage the Police Directorate and all other institutions to continue with such actions in the fight against environmental crime," said Leković.
However, he adds, it should be said frankly, that the Bar coast has been systematically damaged, devastated and destroyed over the past 30 years. Illegal construction, usurpation of state land, concreting of the coast and the arrogant behavior of individuals close to the authorities have left long-term consequences for nature, space and the quality of life of all citizens.
"What we are seeing today is not an isolated case, but the result of decades of negligence and insufficient control. Therefore, this action must and should be the beginning of a serious and continuous crackdown on environmental crime, without exceptions and without selective justice," Leković emphasized.
Leković said that there are certainly more locations and areas in Bar that need to be thoroughly checked. Institutions must show that they are ready to act everywhere, not just where it is easiest, as was done years ago during the old regime.
"It is time for zero tolerance towards the destruction of space and nature. Anyone who devastates the coast must bear full legal responsibility. Environmental protection is not a choice, it is an obligation to this country and future generations," Leković concluded in a statement.
