The event is organized by a hairdresser. Slavka Radojevic from the "Mirror Room" salon, which will create a small open-air salon on the plateau in front of the Department Store that day, from 10 am to 6 pm.
"The haircut will be free for everyone who donates their hair, and they only need to come with clean hair. I will also do free hairstyles for the girls - braids, buns, and the like," announces Radojević.
He adds that on that day, he will also provide free haircuts to anyone who is unable to pay, regardless of the donation.
As she points out, she found out about the humanitarian hair collection campaign conducted by the NGO "Disi" by chance, through social networks.
"I immediately wanted to see what it was about and what kind of organization it was," says our interviewee.
She found the motive for participating in personal experience.
"Three members of my family suffered from cancer and, unfortunately, passed away. That's why I feel a special need to help," she pointed out.
She emphasizes that hair donation is extremely important due to the shortage of wigs and their high price.
"Losing hair often means losing self-confidence, a smile, and the will to fight. If we can give someone back at least some of that, that's a big deal," Slavka believes.
The donation process is simple - hair should be clean, freshly washed and, preferably, blow-dried straight, and the minimum length for donation is about 25 centimeters.
"The hair is tied into strands, then cut off with a clipper and left neatly tied in a ponytail or braid. After that, the client's haircut and hairstyle are completed," explains Slavka.
She adds that hair can be donated by girls, young women, and women who have healthy and preserved hair, while donation after strong chemical treatments, such as bleaching or keratin, is not recommended.
She has already had several donors in the past few days, which makes her especially happy. "I feel fulfilled and happy every time I can help someone who really needs help," she says honestly.
However, Slavka points out that she is disappointed by the poor response from her colleagues.
"I'm sorry that no other salon in Bar joined the campaign," she says.
Finally, she sent a message to the citizens:
"If you're already planning to get a haircut - do it humanely. Your hair will grow back, and you can give someone back their smile and hope," she concluded.
The NGO "Breathe" says that this action was created for deeply personal reasons. The executive director of this NGO House Gardašević, points out that hair loss for people undergoing cancer treatment is not just an aesthetic problem, but also a matter of identity, self-confidence and dignity.
"The donated hair is sent to Belgrade, where the wigs are made by hand, using the 'hair by hair' method, to make them look as natural as possible. Between five and seven donations are needed to make one wig, which is why it is important for as many citizens as possible to get involved," Gardašević explains.
She adds that there are already women and children who need this kind of help, and priority will be given to those who are unable to provide a wig themselves.
Participating in the campaign is simple, hair salons provide haircuts, while the NGO "Disi" takes over the donated hair and passes it on to wig makers. The costs of making wigs are covered by donations, so salons participate exclusively through their work and support of the campaign.
The NGO "Breathe" invites hair salons to join this campaign.
"Every haircut can be the beginning of a big change in the life of someone battling cancer. We invite all salons to join us and together create smiles where they are needed most," says the NGO Disi.
Interested hair salons can apply via the organization's Instagram page.
"If with one donation we can restore someone's smile and help them regain their self-confidence, then we know we have done something truly valuable," said Gardašević.
For all those who are unable to donate hair, but want to help, they can also provide support by paying funds for the making of wigs, turbans and treatment of oncology patients to the bank account of the NGO "Disi": 540-000000001390058.
A large number of salons from numerous cities in Montenegro have already joined this humanitarian campaign.
