Unless a miracle happens in the second leg, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid will secure a place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

The Bavarians humiliated Atalanta (6:1) in Bergamo without Harry Kane, while Atletico Madrid convincingly defeated Tottenham (5:2) in the first legs of the round of 16 of the elite competition.

The New Balance Arena witnessed the complete dominance of the German champions. The debacle of the only remaining Italian representative in the elite competition was announced by Josip Stanišić in the 12th minute. The guests quickly took a corner kick, caught the rival defense asleep – Serge Gnabry put Stanišić to work, who had no difficulty sending the ball into the unguarded net from close range.

In the 22nd minute, Bayern's lead was doubled by Michael Oliseh. The brilliant French midfielder did everything beautifully, placing the ball on his left foot and hitting the far corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Just 180 seconds later, the scoreboard read a whopping 3:0. Oliseh played past Gnabry, who had come from the back, easily ran past Sead Kolašinac, dived into the penalty area and sent the ball past Karnezeki.

Bayern had five or six more great opportunities to go into the break with a more convincing lead, but Oliseh, Gnabry and Jackson were not precise enough, each on two occasions.

The German machine continued where it left off, and in the 52nd minute it was 4:0. Atalanta got a break about 30 meters from the opponent's goal, but after a shot by Nikola Zalevski, the guests' counterattack was lightning fast, which Jackson converted into a goal after an effective assist from Luis Diaz with his heel.

Vincent Kompany's team didn't stop there either – they scored their fifth goal in the 64th minute. Carnezequia defeated Olise for the second time tonight, almost in the same way as the previous one, but even more effectively.

Just three minutes later, Atalanta's sixth goal was scored - Jackson crossed from the right, and Jamal Musiala reacted brilliantly between the two goalkeepers and scored.

By the end, Bayern was close to a seventh goal, but Dayo Upamecano hit the post, while after Jackson's shot, Djimshiti reacted on the goal line and prevented his team from further embarrassment.

In the third minute of stoppage time, the home team managed to score a consolation goal. Belanova crossed down the right, Nikola Krstović shot after a duel with Urbigo, and Mario Pašalić followed up with a shot that went into the net from a distance of about two meters.

Krstović played the entire match and was one of the best on the losing team.

Atletico crushed the indolent Tottenham (5:2) in front of their fans in a real goleada, inflicting the London team's sixth consecutive defeat in all competitions (Igor Tudor's fourth in as many matches).

Practically in the first half of the first half, the question of who would advance to the top eight was resolved, because after 22 minutes the scoreboard showed a somewhat unreal 4:0.

Marcos Llorente opened the scoring for the visitors in the sixth minute. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinski slipped while taking the shot, and Julián Alvarez set up Marcos Llorente, who fired the ball into the net from 12-13 meters.

The "Quiltmakers" doubled their lead in the 14th minute. This time, two Tottenham players slipped, all followed by Antoine Griezmann, who took advantage of the gift.

Less than a minute later, Julián Alvarez made it 3-0 after a bizarre mistake by goalkeeper Kinski. Igor Tudor reacted and replaced the goalkeeper – Vicario took his place between the posts. Something that rarely happens in football, especially in the Champions League.

Just five minutes after entering the field, Vicario had to clear the ball from the net, after it was scored by Robin Le Norman in the 22nd minute.

Four minutes later, Pedro Poro reduced the score to 4:1 on an assist from Richarlison.

Alvarez restored the plus four with his second goal of the game, when after a great save by Jan Oblak, he took the ball from his own half, ran on the counterattack and converted it into a goal.

Dominic Solanki gave Spurs some hope after Oblak's mistake and Por's pass in the 76th minute for the final 5:2.

Newcastle and Barcelona drew 1-1 at St James' Park.

Both goals were seen in the final minutes.

Harvey Barnes gave the Magpies a deserved lead in the 86th minute after Jacob Murphy's cross from the right. A few minutes earlier, Barnes had hit the frame of the goal.

It seemed that Barnes' goal would be enough for the triumph, however, the Catalans came to an equalizer in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Malik Chau naively missed a penalty by bringing down Dani Olmo in his own penalty area, and Lamin Jamal took responsibility and scored to make it 1-1.
