Career diplomat Miodrag Lekić pointed out in the show "Referat" on TV Podgorica that events in the world have unpredictable consequences, but that he does not expect the events in Iran to be the cause or pretext for World War III.

He states that events with unpredictable consequences are currently taking place in the world.

"Global turning points have been happening for some time now, in the last few years. The international order has completely collapsed and difficult situations are still occurring in the search for a new order. We are currently in a very complicated phase where there are fewer and fewer rules, where brute force prevails - the power of the stronger. What is currently happening in the world is not a regional event and it will involve a good part of the world and that is exactly what is happening. We have a conflict that has many specificities, although it is not as new as a crisis," said Lekić.

He believes that the event in Iran, no matter how drastic and consequential, should not be the cause or pretext for World War III.

According to him, one of the characteristics of the chaos taking place in the world is the circumvention of international law, with the United Nations being completely marginalized.

"We have a situation where some pseudo-creations are emerging that are supposed to bring peace, such as the Peace Committee, which aims to bring peace to Gaza. Although it has a broader name, it is there to resolve the conflict. This should practically be a parallel form of the United Nations, which is the main pillar of international law, and in this chaos, it is precisely international law that has collapsed," Lekić pointed out.

He states that it is difficult to predict the period that awaits us.

"All of this that is happening will have much broader dimensions. It is paradoxical that negotiations between the US and Iran were underway, and that without any major information about a possible collapse, incorrectness or some Iranian extremism, this attack followed," said Lekić.

Montenegro, he says, is obliged, regardless of the UN crisis, to speak out in this situation and that the dimension of criticism could have been more complete. He says that Montenegro cannot always blindly follow Brussels' reactions, but that we must show that we are a state and that we think for ourselves, and that "in some nuance we can say something that has not been confirmed in Brussels, and that way they will appreciate us more."

"There is no alternative to the European Union"

Lekić points out that there is currently no alternative to the European Union, although it is not known what it will look like in the future.

"The direction of Europe should continue, but not as an ideology. I am for the Western option, but I am also for a more open attitude towards all processes. We need to be able to understand the changing world, and to strategically position ourselves towards these changes. We must keep the main direction, but also be able to see our future," said Lekić.

Ethnofederalism, as he says, is a problem for Montenegro, but the problem is that it does not end within the borders of our country.

"Montenegro must be a state governed by the rule of law, and it still has classic problems in the judiciary, which are very worrying. I am very concerned about the attacks on the special prosecutor's office. We have attacks from all possible sides, whoever is dissatisfied. So many attacks when they are doing their job, which we need both for ourselves and for the EU. We must have a policy with more expertise and less propaganda," said Lekić.

"The cover must not be dropped without a fight"

He also criticized Montenegro's behavior in its relationship with Croatia, saying that it "suffers demands and humiliations in an inferior manner."

"We have no right to tolerate this, but I am not in favor of aggravating relations either. To the extent that we bend, it will become even more pronounced. The biggest problem is Prevlaka, like a neuralgic point, so important and must not be dropped without a fight. It is currently without a fight. The commission on our part has not yet been formed, and this mandate will also pass. We do not even know if we are fighting for it to remain in Montenegro. I am afraid that another mandate will pass without concrete steps," Lekić pointed out.
