In German political and military circles, there is increasing talk of a \"hole\" in European defense capabilities, especially when it comes to long-range precision missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is why Rheinmetall has decided to accelerate the development and production of its own systems that could become a key part of European deterrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The German company has formed a joint venture with Dutch startup Destinus called \"Rheinmetall Destinus Strike Systems\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new company should begin production by the end of this year or early 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plan is for the new systems to be intended for the German military, but also for international customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Germany is developing a missile in response to Tomahawk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The main product of the new partnership will be the \"Ruta Block 2\" autonomous medium-range cruise missile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to available information, the missile should have a range of more than 700 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although this is smaller than the American Tomahawk missiles, Berlin believes that the new weapon could play an important role in Europe's strategy to deter Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Particular attention was drawn to the fact that the company Destinus is already supplying certain types of missile systems to Ukraine, which is why it is allegedly on the list of potential targets of the Russian Ministry of Defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rheinmetall enters a completely new era<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Rheinmetall has so far been known primarily for the production of tanks, ammunition and artillery systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entering the cruise missile sector represents one of the biggest turning points in the company's history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this way, the German giant directly enters into market competition with the European group MBDA, which has dominated that segment of the military industry for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Record growth of the military industry in Europe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The war in Ukraine and rising security tensions have completely changed the European arms market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rheinmetall announced that the value of the company's orders reached a record 73 billion euros, compared to 56 billion a year earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company expects revenue to grow between 40 and 45 percent in 2026, and total sales could exceed 14 billion euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Part of the growth is also related to the expansion of business into the maritime sector after the takeover of the Naval Vessels L\u00fcrssen shipyard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
