The ship set sail from Ushuaia on April 1 and was later anchored off the coast of Cape Verde after three passengers died, suspected of being infected with hantavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The investigation, however, has not yet confirmed that the infection originated in Argentina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to health data, hantavirus is usually transmitted through contact with infected rodents, through urine, feces, or saliva, while human-to-human transmission is rare but possible with certain strains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Argentine Ministry of Health states that the Tierra del Fuego province, where Ushuaia is located, has not had any reported cases since 1996, while experts point out that Argentina experiences sporadic cases every year, but not epidemics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to data from Argentine authorities, 42 cases have been recorded this year, while 101 have been recorded in the last 12 months, which is almost double the number in the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Experts say the increase in cases does not indicate an epidemic, but rather individual infections that occur regularly in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, health authorities in Bariloche confirmed a new case of the disease in a 45-year-old patient, who was hospitalized and transferred to intensive care, while his family members were placed in preventive isolation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
