Role models<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Quality System Management Committee, which operates within the Center for Quality Improvement, part of the organizational structure of the Rectorate of the University of Montenegro, analyzed, among other things, all of these reports, which indicated how faculties are fighting for respect for moral principles, and emphasized that the Faculty of Law has worked significantly on strengthening mechanisms for preventing and sanctioning violations of academic integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The report regarding the initiated disciplinary proceedings did not provide details, nor how all these proceedings were specifically concluded. For the Faculty of Law, it was stated that the total number of initiated disciplinary proceedings in the 2024\/2025 academic year was significantly lower than in previous academic years, and a total of 14 disciplinary proceedings were initiated, which resulted in 12 imposed measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"With an active campaign on academic values \u200b\u200band the consequences of violating academic integrity, the number of disciplinary proceedings initiated by professors has significantly decreased... It is noticeable that the most frequent and severe sanctions are imposed in the winter semester of the first year of undergraduate studies,\" the document regarding the faculty's self-evaluation states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In reports regarding the self-evaluation of faculties, which is being done in order to improve the situation, it was noted that although no procedures have been initiated at the units, this does not mean that there are no irregularities, but rather that everything may point to insufficiently developed reporting mechanisms...<\/p>\n\n\n\n The defendant student withdrew from the program.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \"There were no disciplinary proceedings at the Biotechnical Faculty in the previous year, and the attempts at cheating that were observed were sanctioned through internal procedures (public announcements among colleagues and students). There is a continuous negative practice among students of not reporting unethical behavior of colleagues during knowledge tests, although they discuss this more openly with academic staff, but without the desire to submit a written report. Students show little interest in the academic integrity course. There was one report from a group of students for harassment and threats, disciplinary proceedings were not initiated because the accused student withdrew,\" the document states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Authorities say that students should be encouraged to think critically about the issue of non-compliance with the principles of academic integrity and to report any unethical behavior by other students and employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They use AI, abuse\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At the Faculty of Political Sciences, several activities have also been organized in the past period with the aim of protecting academic integrity (lectures, meetings, seminars, round tables, workshops, three employees whose responsibility is the promotion and improvement of academic integrity). As noted, only one session of the Council dedicated to the quality assurance system and academic integrity issues was held. Only one disciplinary procedure was recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Students at this faculty are generally familiar with the expected sanctions in the event of plagiarism, and the use of aids, technical and otherwise, during oral and written knowledge tests (e.g., headphones, smart watches, etc.). At all levels of study, students within certain subjects are tasked with writing student papers, during which the faculty's teaching staff additionally educates students on the rules for citing literature in their work, and how to cite in order to avoid accusations of plagiarism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"In the last few years, there has been remarkable progress in technology, especially in terms of the development of artificial intelligence and applications that support the creation of homework assignments, summaries and other written activities. This creates an additional challenge, as students are increasingly using artificial intelligence to create student papers and essays. The use of artificial intelligence to create master's theses and projects in specialized subjects is particularly increasing,\" the document states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is emphasized that applications such as Chat GPT can affect students' creativity, reduce the ability to think logically and the need to check information. They further state that practice shows that in some cases students, out of ignorance, plagiarize scientific papers using direct quotes without quotation marks, but with the source cited. It was requested that the necessity of respecting ethical norms when writing seminar papers\/essays\/journalistic texts\/master's and doctoral theses be promoted among students, but also that work should be done to regulate the use of artificial intelligence through new internal acts of the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Complaints<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At the Faculty of Medicine, as it was pointed out, there were no activities aimed at protecting academic integrity. It was stated that five sessions of the Council were held on issues of academic integrity and the quality assurance system. Four disciplinary proceedings were recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"In the coming period, additional efforts need to be made to increase the number and diversify the types of activities that promote and improve academic integrity (meetings, seminars, round tables on academic integrity), because it was stated that there were no activities at all in this field,\" the document specifies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the Faculty of Architecture, certain activities have been organized to protect academic integrity (lectures, conferences, seminars, round tables, workshops, there are five employees responsible for the promotion and improvement of academic integrity), and only one disciplinary procedure has been recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Regarding the situation at the Faculty of Economics, it was noted that there were no mechanisms and activities aimed at protecting academic integrity, preventing discrimination, unethical behavior, intolerance (lectures, meetings, seminars, round tables, workshops, etc.). Also, there were no thematic sessions of the Council dedicated to the quality assurance system and issues of academic integrity. There were no disciplinary proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Faculty of Electrical Engineering is also being asked to take concrete measures to promote a culture of academic integrity and its protection. There is only one employee responsible for promoting and improving academic integrity, and given the size of the faculty, they believe that the number of representatives should be increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There were no disciplinary proceedings at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering either, so it was recommended that the institution should make additional efforts to strengthen mechanisms for preventing and sanctioning violations of academic integrity. A significant increase in the number of anti-plagiarism checks of master's and doctoral theses was also recorded, which, as stated, contributes to strengthening the culture of academic integrity. The faculty has implemented a number of activities that include the promotion of academic ethics, the prevention of plagiarism and the education of students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Few sessions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At the Academy of Music, a small number of activities aimed at protecting academic integrity were observed, indicating that there is room for further improvement in this segment. Only one session of the Council was held dedicated to the quality assurance system and academic integrity issues. There were no disciplinary proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, certain activities were organized to protect academic integrity, but even though it is a faculty with a large number of students, there was only one disciplinary procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There were also significant activities at the Faculty of Philology, and their archives show that they had two disciplinary proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There were none at the Faculty of Philosophy. It was noted that there were significant activities to protect academic integrity at that institution. They number as many as 11 employees, or 12.36 percent of the total number of employees whose responsibility is the promotion and improvement of academic integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Faculty of Fine Arts is also required to undertake a number of other activities in this area in order to promote culture and protect academic integrity. Only one session of the Council was held dedicated to the quality assurance system and academic integrity issues. There were no disciplinary proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Faculty of Dramatic Arts organized as many as five thematic sessions of the Council dedicated to the quality assurance system and issues of academic integrity. There were no disciplinary proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Faculty of Faculty of Science was also given guidelines to improve the situation. It was stated that, although certain activities have been carried out to protect academic integrity (only two are listed), additional activities need to be undertaken in this area. One disciplinary procedure was held during the reporting period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No answer on how much plagiarism there was<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The University of Montenegro committed itself by a decision of April 12, 2018, to further protect academic integrity, and since then, through plagiarism detection software, they have been regularly checking whether master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and publications they publish within the framework of publishing activities are original, taking into account the common good and preserving the integrity of the academic community...<\/p>\n\n\n\n The oldest higher education institution did not respond to Pobjeda's questions on this topic, and whether and in what way the software has been improved...<\/p>\n\n\n\n We have not received any responses from some of the faculties we wrote to, but we have received responses from the Faculty of Medicine. The institution says that they perform plagiarism checks using specialized software Plagiarism Checker X. The check is applied to diploma, specialist, master's and seminar theses at doctoral studies. The work is entered into the software, which then compares it with available databases and internet sources to determine the degree of similarity with existing texts. Doctoral dissertations are checked at the University of Montenegro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"The exact number of checks mainly depends on the number of students who are to graduate, it can be said that checks are carried out continuously, especially after exam deadlines and submission of final papers. In the previous year, the number of checks was 180. The results generally show a very low percentage of similarity,\" they stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As they explain, the software uses advanced \"deep search\" technology along with a \"search booster\" feature to quickly and accurately perform similarity checks in documents and texts across billions of web pages. The result displays the percentage of similarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"There is no strictly defined percentage of overlap. It is important to emphasize that it is not just the percentage that is crucial, but: whether the sources are accurately cited, whether there is \"copy-paste\" without attribution, whether the work is original in terms of analysis and conclusions,\" they pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The software analyzes textual matches by comparing sentences, phrases, and parts of text with existing sources in its database and on the Internet. The software serves as a similarity detection tool, while the final assessment of whether a work constitutes plagiarism is made by a competent committee based on the report and academic rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"Plagiarism Checker X has a built-in AI content detector that improves standard plagiarism checking by providing an indication of whether the text was generated using artificial intelligence tools or written by a human.
