At the Svilaj Border Crossing, the presence of a large number of freight vehicles is already noticeable, along a length of approximately one and a half kilometers. The trucks are parked along the roadway, and the movement of goods has been suspended, while passenger traffic is, for now, proceeding without disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to information from the organizers, between 50 and 200 trucks are expected at border crossings across the country. Information is still being collected on which border crossings will be blocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the organizers of the protest gathering in the immediate vicinity of the Svilaj Border Crossing, further concrete actions that the demonstrators will take in the context of the blockades should be known in the next two hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The carriers point out that they are forced to take this step due to, as they state, discriminatory rules that limit their stay in the Schengen area to 90 days, after which they face entry bans, even though they have all the necessary permits and licenses to work and are not residing in the EU, but are only in transit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to changes to the rules of residence in European Union countries, transporters are also demanding specific economic measures from domestic institutions, including the refund of part of excise duties on fuel, the refund of VAT for international transport, as well as the implementation of previously agreed conclusions, with the aim of speeding up procedures and reducing waiting times at borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They expect the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina to fulfill 17 previously agreed points, including fiscal relief for the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The situation on the ground is currently calm, but it is evident that a longer-term suspension of freight traffic could cause serious consequences for supply and the economy, unless the problem is quickly resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Government of the Republic of Srpska held an emergency session last night due to the announced blockade of transporters and asked the RS Ministry of Interior to prevent the blockade at border crossings in the RS.
