As far as we know, no coordination or path separation was carried out with existing satellites already operating in space, resulting in a close approach of 200 meters between one of the launched satellites and STARLINK-6079 (56120) at an altitude of 560 km".

Starlink satellites have the ability to automatically adjust their trajectory to avoid objects in their path. However, these objects must be known for the avoidance system to work.

In the first six months of 2025, Starlink spacecraft have performed more than 144,000 such maneuvers.

The problematic satellite was launched by the CAS Space company, which responded to Nichols on the X platform.

"Our team is currently in contact to obtain more details. All CAS Space launches select launch windows using the Earth's space tracking system to avoid collisions with known satellites and debris. This is a mandatory procedure."

The commercial space launch company, based in Guangzhou, China, then appeared to distance itself from responsibility, saying the incident occurred nearly 48 hours after the payload separation, by which time the launch mission was long over.

According to the publication Space, more than 24,000 objects, including satellites and space debris, are currently being tracked in low Earth orbit, a 76 percent increase since 2019.

By the end of this decade, there could be as many as 70,000 satellites in operational use in the same region, mostly within space internet constellations launched by private and government organizations in the US, China and Europe.

News of this near-collision will further heighten concerns about the large number of aircraft operating in the same region.

According to the theory, any collision could trigger a Kessler syndrome scenario, in which a chain of collisions would destroy existing satellites and render the entire low-Earth orbit unusable. B92.

A collision in space was narrowly avoided last Sunday when a newly launched Chinese satellite came within just a few hundred meters of one of the approximately 9,000 Starlink satellites currently operating in low Earth orbit.

[24
15534,4198

post-893364","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-zanimljivosti","tag-izbjegnut-sudar","tag-svemir
["GET
