Iran announces “new phase” of Strait management
On the other hand, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei states that Iran will "bring management of the strait into a new phase."
Trump accused Iran of doing a very poor job and behaving dishonestly in managing the passage of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that this is not in accordance with the agreement that, as he claims, exists between the parties.
Trump: Iran should not charge tankers for passage
Trump said yesterday that Iran should not charge fees to tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
"They better not do it, and if they do, they better stop it now," Trump said at the time.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said Trump had floated the idea that the US could make money from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz by charging a fee for passage, stressing that it was a topic that would be discussed in the coming days.
Limited traffic despite agreement
Meanwhile, access to the Strait of Hormuz remains restricted and under control, and shipping traffic remains significantly reduced despite a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, said the head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Sultan Al Jaber.
He stressed that the strait "is not open" and that passage through it is "limited, conditioned and controlled."
Al Jaber stated that access to the waterway is subject to conditions and Iranian political influence and warned that the weaponization of this vital maritime corridor cannot be tolerated, as it threatens freedom of navigation and global economic stability.
Iran: Passage possible with coordination with the military
Iran has announced that passage through the strait is possible with coordination with the Iranian armed forces and taking into account technical limitations.
Before the conflict, the Strait of Hormuz functioned as a free international waterway.
