"If they stop the attacks, then we can find a diplomatic solution. But while our countries are under attack, this is not the time to form a committee," said spokesman Majed al-Ansari. "It is time to take a firm and principled stance to protect our countries, and they must stop the attacks immediately."
Iranian proposal rejected
Al-Ansari categorically rejected a proposal made over the weekend by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who proposed the establishment of a committee to investigate attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gulf countries, for which Tehran denies responsibility.
The spokesman stressed that "threats and attacks on civilian targets have not stopped" since the start of the war and noted that the missile intercepted on Saturday was aimed at a residential area in Doha.
Evacuations due to threats
The decision to issue the evacuation order, he said, was made in part because of warnings in Iranian media that “certain companies and specific geographic locations” in residential and business areas would be attacked. The evacuation zones included US companies such as Google, American Express and Microsoft.
Al-Ansari concluded that Qatar is working to defuse the crisis, but that there is currently no knowledge of any official mediation between the United States and Iran.
