Director of the Landfill, Aleksandar Bozovic, said that the new, fifth sanitary bath measures 200 by 100 meters, is up to seven and a half meters deep, and has a larger capacity than the previous ones.
"All possible foils and all materials that are under this gravel are behind us according to absolutely all possible parameters and collect all wastewater and drain it to the treatment plant, thus preventing environmental pollution," said Božović.

With the fifth bathtub, he says, the environment will be much better protected.
"The thing is that the previous 4th sanitary bath had a lifespan of about four years, and compared to this one, where we plan to have a lifespan of five, even six years, with proper treatment, as well as additional effort and effort to manage waste. We believe that with additional work, it will be able to last up to six years, until the construction of the sixth sanitary bath," says Božović.

However, the lifespan of sanitary vats could be significantly longer if primary waste selection were implemented to a greater extent, Božović points out. He emphasizes that waste management begins at the point of origin, while the landfill is the last link in that system.
"The trends are such that there is more and more waste and there is no chance that it will decrease, but rather increase, and we just need to apply the law in the right way, and ensure primary selection, but on the other hand, sanction negligent citizens who must, above all, have a moral obligation to preserve the environment and all citizens," said Božović.
The fifth sanitary vat, at the "Livade" landfill, should start filling in June, after all administrative procedures and technical acceptance are completed. The company Deponija believes that the new capacities will ensure stable functioning of the waste disposal system in the coming years.
