A fire-stricken area clean-up campaign was organized in Ćemovsko polje, with the aim of better preparing for the upcoming fire season. It was organized by members of the Voluntary Firefighters' Association of Montenegro, with the support of partner organizations and volunteers.

After the previous summer and one of the most difficult fire seasons, the Voluntary Fire Department of Montenegro carried out a cleanup operation in the burned area on Ćemovsko polje.

"We will carry out the first of a series of actions to clean up burned trees, branches, low vegetation, and waste, after which we will carry out an action to plant new trees, which should lead to some revitalization of this entire area, as well as reducing the risk of fire," said Luka Vulić, a member of the volunteer fire department.

The company emphasizes that they are in communication with the Capital City and the Protection and Rescue Service.

"We have already had some constructive meetings where we agreed on further steps and how the voluntary fire service can best assist the protection and rescue services, because it is very important that it all be a cohesive whole and that it all functions in a way where everyone works together and is actually focused on the same goal," emphasizes member Jelena Perović.

In addition to rehabilitating the terrain, members of the society are also working on strengthening their capacity to act in emergency situations - they have undergone specialized training in the field of protection and rescue, and new preventive activities in the field are also being planned.

"The agreement is that we, as a volunteer fire department, will be on standby this season for patrolling and surveillance, so we will be of great help in terms of carrying out that preventive part," says Dragana Dragojević.

The Tivat Youth Club, the NGO "Our Action" and the "Right Route" team also participated in the clean-up campaign. They say that through such initiatives they want to encourage greater involvement of young people in volunteer and environmental activities.

"Somehow, with our presence, we can not only help our country, our backyard, so to speak, but also motivate other young people to join us in similar actions in the future," concludes Aleksandar Šćepanović from the NGO "Naša akcija".

The organizers say that preserving nature is the responsibility of all citizens, and that they want to raise awareness about the importance of volunteerism and especially encourage young people to get involved and contribute to the protection of the community.
